Do Thongs Cause Yeast Infections

Yeast infections can flare up any time, and is a common UTI in both men and women, but can wearing a certain type of underwear such as thongs prevent this?

Yes, thongs can be the cause of yeast infections, but your personal hygiene is the real cause. By not wiping your bum properly after going to the toilet, poo from your bum spreads to your vagina with the thong acting as a highway. Over the cause of a day, the thong strap will move back and forth.

This is due to the walking, sitting, squatting and moving about that moves the fabric from the thong that once sat near your anus, now finding its way to your vagina.

That's right, it hard to believe and seems impossible, and well the dirty area in the thong won't make its way completely to the urinal tract, moisture such as sweat can help it along, turning your private area into a real mush pit.

You are not out of the woods if you've never had a yeast infection before, your personal hygiene can still be poor despite never getting an infection.

So with that in mind, always seek to wipe your bottom well by keeping your thong clean - just because you've dodged it so far, doesn't mean it can happen.

Not just thong underwear

Well this article does cover the issues of thongs causing yeast infections, having said that, regardless of your choice of underwear, all knickers can contribute to yeast infections if your own personal hygiene is not up to standard.

The only area that matters on underwear is the gusset, this part of the underwear is area that moves poo to and from the anus.

Sure the way the thong material sits between your bum cheeks is a cause to be concerned, but then underwear that is design to fit in your bum are still a problem.

Those include cheekies and french knickers which are both designed to fit inside your bum.

And that takes us to wedgies, that's right, a big old pair of grannies or briefs can end up looking a bit cheeky over the cause of the day, and where does that material end up, stuffed right up the jacksie.

So you see, its not just thongs that cause yeast infections, but a whole host of underwear styles can contribute.

But again, good personal hygiene should prevent infections in the long term.

What causes yeast infections?

The most common causes of yeast infections - well thong underwear can help it along - is when bacteria from your poo touches the vagina.

This bacteria can then carry on down the urinary tract where the pee comes out from the hole on top of your vagina area.

For the most part, bacteria can reach your vagina many times over the cause of your life, but once in a while you will run out of luck, the bacteria enters the urinal tract and you get a yeast infection.

You could also get yeast infections with the following conditions in women:

  • During pregnancy
  • Kidney stones
  • type 2 diabetes

This doesn't Include more severe medical conditions, or problems caused in men and children.

Are Yeast Infections a STD

To be clear, UTIs such as that of yeast infections are NOT a sexually transmitted decease, or STD for short.

Unlike STD, a urinary tract infection can happen due to poor personal hygiene in men and women, with an infection of the kidney, ureter, bladder and urethra.

Well sexually transmitted deceases can be severe and almost always need treatment, UTIs are less so. But at the same time you can become quite poorly with this infection so always seek medical advice from your GP.

How to treat Yeast Infections

In itself, yeast infections can be quite mild, and can be present without your knowing, and quickly disappear without a whimper.

In the case of a severe yeast infection; feeling sick, shivering, feeling hot, body pain, and or diarrhoea - make an appointment to see your doctor.

Your your GP should then take a examination of the vagina area and if all is OK, should send you away with a prescription for antibiotics.

If he/she can't diagnose the issues right there, a visit to the hospital might be in order, but a urinal sample will be taken.
