What are V-Strings
What v-strings really are to many are a different type of thong or g-string, when in fact its a term used as a branding, rather than being anything more interesting.
What are v-strings is a g-string only, nothing more, nothing less. It once meant the 'V' shape fabric connected to the waistband in the rear is cut-out, now its a term exclusively used by Victoria's Secret. Its not a term used elsewhere in the word other than the USA - name v-string can be used to describe a thong.
I can't believe the name v-string as changed so much over the years, because what it means today was not how it was described a decade ago.
To refer to a v-string a person would be interested in basically what would be a regular g-string, with all the benefits of it being made up of mostly strings.
Only the difference being the v-string has a hole cut-out. Nothing sexual at all, it just has the fabric cut-out from the little upside down triangle fixed to the upper rear end.
Rarely now would you see a g-string truly classed as a v-string, but if it did only VS would call it so - as the companies name has a lot in common with the term, v-string - if you can figure it out for yourself...
No, well basically the V and S in v-string is the initials of Victoria's Secret, hence the company using it as a sort of brand name, even today.
However to see a true v-string in their main collection or the PINK range, would be a rare one as they don't make or sell this kind very regularly.
Today, while a v-string can mean any type of g-string, it can also refer to a classic thong or any underwear in that style.
Not only are v-strings and g-strings identical in appearance, but anything from comfort to fit is no different either.
Basically a g-string
To put it bluntly, a v-string is pretty much a g-string, but depending on the store you buy g-strings from or who you speak too, they're identical underwear.
G-strings are known for their strings only approach and so are v-strings.
The large front panel and little rear triangle panel is connected with a string waistband, as it is with a tiny g-string.
V-strings, much like g-strings, can be in all shapes and sizes, with decoration or a mix of fabric in use.
But what it can never be is a full thong, as it would defeat the purpose.
What are v-strings are basically g-strings, but previously you could tell them apart by one major feature, and that is a hole cut-out in the rear fabric.
V-shape CUT-OUT in rear
If you consider a standard g-string that has a large triangle covering the pubis, along with a smaller rear triangle connected to the waistband, its this tiny triangle that is different.
Rather than the whole tiny triangle filled in with fabric - with it being cotton or nylon - this piece is removed.
Hence the triangle is made to appear like a v-shape, so there comes the name v-string.
And that differentiates a g-string from a v-string, the material that is in the rear end as been cut-out with only seams or edging keeping the v-string together.
Perhaps a little sexier than an already sexy g-string but the cut-out hole serves no other purpose than a different design - that is before Victoria's Secret got hold of it.
What else I can say is the design of v-strings, just as g-strings, are not very comfortable in most circumstances.
What Victoria's Secret call g-strings
Now I can't be right for sure but I believe the use of the name v-string was coined by Victoria's Secret in a way to promote their g-string range.
It was perfect, the 'V and S' in v-string were the companies initials, so it had the writing on the wall from the start.
So if you were to hear the word v-string, it can be a direct reference to a VS g-string, or the person in question as no idea the name g-string is more appropriate.
Remarkably, even to this day Victoria's Secret still categorise their g-string range under the sub-category of Thongs & V-Strings - so still relevant to VS.
Inspecting their current thong selection doesn't render what I would call a g-string with a v-string.
Reason for that is the backing triangle - if its the g-string type - has the material filled in, with no cut-out fabric at all available in their collection.
So I believe the term v-string is only used for branding these days with the company.
No longer current
I therefore assume a v-string is nothing more than a g-string under the Victoria's Secret brand, although its a widely termed name by millions.
If referring to a v-string this day and age, it is still a g-string you will be talking about, but it can go beyond that.
What with Victoria's Secret categorising thongs under the same heading; people could refer full bodied thongs as v-strings.
I can say the term v-string is no longer current, serving as only a branded name, but with no copyright in place - when referencing VS g-strings.
So as the word is current in the VS bubble, the name doesn't carry much weight in any other parts of the world.
Summary
To get straight to the point, a v-string is basically a g-string, you know what it is - a much skimpier than full bodied thong underwear.
The name v-string was in fact invented, or inherited by Victoria's Secret as a sort of brand name, when referring to their g-string range.
Once a upon a time, that wasn't true as there was one major distinction of a v-string.
That was the fabric inside the triangle in the rear was cut-out, where the seam connecting the g-string strip, goes up the bum to the waistband.
To call it a v-string today, its possible a person will be talking about a g-string from VS, or fails to not understand its basically the same as a g-string, a more common expression used by the general population.
So what are v-strings are g-strings, but can also be thongs, a t-back type underwear or something a little more substantial - with more fabric making up the design.
